Plastic surgery for weight loss can have its pros and its cons. Great results can come out of different types of procedures. But, bad things can also be a result such as complications of surgery. Plastic surgery is a growing industry because of high obesity rates and associated health risks, in spite of high costs, risks, complications and the struggle weight maintenance after the surgery. According to an article in The Canadian Press by Mike Stobbe, 40 percent of adults and 18.5 percent of children are obese, these rates have not increased much since 2015. However, the adult obesity rates have increased from a rate of 16.7 percent in the early 1980’s. When people lose a tremendous amount of weight they have a lot of excess skin left over, this surgery helps them escape from the leftover skin. In this surgery, if needed, the surgeon will tighten muscles that were stretched out from previous weight gain. Julia Nathan had an Abdominoplasty after losing 110 pounds from having a gastric sleeve. This procedure removes great amount of your stomach, in Julia’s case it removed 80 percent. In Julia’s Abdominoplasty surgery she had 7 pounds of skin removed from her abdomen and breast, after she lost all of the weight her muscles were stretched out, so she got them tightened before the became an health issue. Julia had a hard recovery but is now very happy with her body and has a very healthy lifestyle thanks to these surgeries. The ramifications of plastic surgery sometimes dont result well because of the expenses that are due. Plastic surgery can cost thousands of dollars depending on the surgery and the surgeon. Insurance doesnt pay for plastic surgery, many people go in debt. Common surgeries such as Liposuction, Silhouette Shaping, and Smooth Shapes can cost a fortune. Liposuction is at the minimum $6000, and goes up with how much work is done. Silhouette Shaping has a range between $5000 and $12000 also depending on how much work is done and the doctor.
